Strep?!?

One hour after being boiling hot with a fever and clinging to my arms, after a dose of Tylenol.

What happens when the Tylenol wears off...

One day after I was diagnosed with the flu, Novak came down with a fever. Sure it was either the flu or another ear infection, off we went to the doctor. But it was neither of those. Nope. It was strep. Where he picked that up I may never know.

But today was a sick day for both of us (well, more him than me. I was cleared to return to work...)

I have my baby back!

It's been a long week, but I think it's safe to say that Novak is back to normal.

Just in time for Thanksgiving!

Early risers

Novak is sick.

103 degree temperature, double ear infection, puking in the middle of the night sick.

So, needless to say, he's not feeling well. He was up last night at 12:30 (to throw up) and then 4:40, crying and whining.

Finally at 5:11, I decided to take him out to the kitchen for an early breakfast.

A few minutes later, Nate staggers out of his room and into the kitchen.

"Mom, I need you to come fix my clock."

Why?

"It has a 5 on it..."

Yes, honey, that's because it's 5:15 am. Go back to bed.

"Okay."

For the record, he didn't really go back to bed. He went to the bathroom, refilled the toilet paper, then went and waited in bed until 6.

Of course Nile was up at 5:50. Guess its an early morning today.

Sleep, again

This time change has done a number on Nile. It is 9:15 am and he is back in bed, sound asleep. I hope this is from the time change and not a new illness.

Oh, and a note: last night Novak didn't sleep all that well. The curse of publicly posting strikes again. :) I did knock on wood, really!

The above was originally written on Monday morning. Now it is Tuesday morning. Turns out Nile was/is actually sick. He laid around the house all day, taking another 2.5 hour nap in the early afternoon. Finally I took his temperature at 3:30 and it was slightly elevated (100.3)- so I gave him some ibuprofen. An hour later and he was back to normal. So we went out to dinner. Now it is 7 am and he is still asleep in bed. And I am hoping he is feeling better...I am supposed to go to work today.

Sick House

I stayed home from work today.

It's been a whopper of a week so far. Last Wednesday, Nile came down with a fever. When I picked him up from my parents' house, he was curled up in my mom's lap (which he NEVER does). Then he looked at me and said, "Mom, I want to go to bed." So that's what we did - he went to bed around 6 that night.

On Thursday, he claimed he was feeling better, and I needed to get some things done at work - so I went in for a half day, and planned to pick him up around 2. Right around the time I was leaving to get Nile and Novak, Tom calls to tell me Nate is in the nurse's office at school running a fever. So Tom headed to pick him up, and we met at home with our sick boys. They chilled out watching TV that afternoon, and both were in bed around 6:30.

On Friday, Nate said he was feeling better. The "mom radar" in me thought he wasn't quite over the bug, but he wasn't acting sick. So I sent him to school. He didn't have a fever, so we thought he was just a little tired. Sure enough, at 1:30, the nurse calls - Nate was sent to her office (unwillingly), and he has a low (99.9) fever. He doesn't want to come home - so I let him stay the rest of the day.

Nate ran a low fever all weekend - it was highest at night, 101.8 degrees at the worst. So when he woke up Monday with a fever, we decided it was time to take him to the doctor. Whether he felt sick or not...

Since Novak had been coughing a lot on Sunday, I figured I'd take him along just in case he was getting sick.

Well, after a 1 hour wait in the doctor's office, we get in to have the boys checked. Novak has been asleep in his car seat the whole time. They take his temperature and it's about 102.5. I was shocked - he had not been feverish that morning. Poor kid was boiling hot, miserable, and so lethargic. It was scary! (But I was so glad he was doing this at the doctor's office!). After getting checked out, we got the diagnosis: a double ear infection, RSV, and breathing treatments 4 times a day, because he was short of breath and his lungs sounded "wheezy." And I was cautioned by the doctor to watch him carefully, in case his breathing gets worse. Yikes!

So I have a sick baby today, who needs his mommy a lot more than John Deere needs me.

Oh, and Nate? The boy who has told me he wasn't sick and felt fine for the last five days? He has strep throat.

Tummy Trouble

Last night Nate was up twice, at 3:30 and 4:45, which is really unusual for him. But the second time, he was up because he was sick. The poor kid hates to throw up (not that anyone likes to...).

This morning he got up with Tom and was watching TV when I came out. I told him that we would take it easy at breakfast to see how his stomach would handle food. His response?

"My tummy is handling shows just fine!"

Unfortunately, we didn't quite make it through breakfast. So it looks like it will be a lazy day at home for the family today. We are set up on the couch with blanket, stuffed friend, and bucket.

Of course, Nile has to be treated the same way too, even if he is not sick ;)
