The Redcoats are Coming!

Nate and Nile were playing outside and pretending the playset was a fort.

Nate yells, "The Redcoats are coming!". "The Redcoats are coming!"

I asked him where he heard about the Redcoats. "I don't know, maybe Becky? Or Papa and Grandma?"

"Yeah, it was Papa. Because he was, like, in the war, right?"

Um, no, not quite.

Science Experiments for a Rainy Day

Nate loves to do science experiments. So on his first school book order, we picked a science experiment book. It has over 50 science experiments, so we should have activities for quite some time! Today, Nate and I stayed home while Tom took Nile to Galesburg. So I let him pick three science experiments from his new book.

Mixing up the vinegar and soap mixture.

We also did an experiment with carbonated water and raisins, then Nate picked one with liquids of different densities.

New Glarus

We spent the day today in New Glarus, Wisconsin with Elaine, Dan, Sara, and their two boys. The boys and I enjoyed the outside of the brewery while the others enjoyed the inside.

Preschool orientation

Tom was at Nile's preschool orientation today, because I had to work. Orientation is just an hour where the kids play, meet the teachers, and get introduced to the classroom, while the parents fill out paperwork and get all the "logistics" info. At the end of orientation the kids always show off a song they have learned. I've seen this now twice with Nate, but it's still so much fun. Look how cute my buddy is in this video! (he's the one to the left, in the white John Deere shirt, right behind the teacher)

Music Critic

This morning on the way to work, Nile and I were flipping through radio stations looking for music. Most of the local radio stations in the area has a lot of talking in the mornings. I get to the classic rock station, and the song "Dream Weaver" is on the radio.

From the back seat I hear Nile call out, "Whiny rock...!"

(this is something Tom would, and has, said).
