Easter thoughts

It's Easter Sunday, and I'm currently sitting in my bedroom welcoming the peace and quiet that comes from hiding out. Yes, hiding out.

We had a good day, really. But everyone is tired and still recovering from a short vacation we took last week (we drove home yesterday). Novak was up at 3:30 last night and both Tom and I found it almost impossible to get back to sleep afterward. Nile has been on edge all day with a tendency to talk back. Nate is tired enough that he is crazy hyper, and Novak only napped an hour and is quite moody.

I just needed a break.

All of the boys were wonderful this morning at church. I was so impressed at how well they sat and were quiet. I'll be the first to admit that we haven't given them too many opportunities to practice, as we haven't been going to Sunday services for a while. We got out of the habit when Novak was a morning napper, I guess.

We started the morning with Easter baskets and eggs. The older boys were kind enough not to wake us up before 7, although Novak had been singing in his crib since 6...

After church we headed to my parents house for an early meal, then home by 2 pm. It feels weird being home this afternoon. Almost like we forgot to do something. We are usually at someone's house all day on Easter.

But the weather is nice and the sun is shining, so I can't complain. We were able to all get outside for a while and enjoy some weather that we have been missing so much.

I wonder how long I'll be able to hide out in here...

St. Patty's Day Fun

I'm not usually one to do a bunch of holiday themed activities. Typically I'm the one looking at all the boards on Pinterest or people's blogs after the fact and thinking, "we could have done that!"

This year Tom was gone for the weekend so I needed a little bit more structure (or at least a few more activities).

Out came the food coloring, and yesterday Nile and I prepped by making ice for "rainbow drinks" - I think they worked out pretty well! (And the boys are thrilled to get to drink Sierra Mist.)

We have also played Twister (the boys each made it one spin. One spin. Before falling. Each time.). We made clay sculptures (although I'm not sure they are recognizable as what they are supposed to be). Last night we had a pizza picnic and watched Wreck-it Ralph.

This morning we had Lucky Charms for breakfast. And tonight we will head to Gramma's house for corned beef and cabbage.

It's been a fun weekend! And I'm on my seventh load of laundry....

Strep?!?

One hour after being boiling hot with a fever and clinging to my arms, after a dose of Tylenol.

What happens when the Tylenol wears off...

One day after I was diagnosed with the flu, Novak came down with a fever. Sure it was either the flu or another ear infection, off we went to the doctor. But it was neither of those. Nope. It was strep. Where he picked that up I may never know.

But today was a sick day for both of us (well, more him than me. I was cleared to return to work...)
